The Kraken Skinner was designed in partnership with Jim "The Kraken" Erwin, Jim is a former Army Special operations soldier who served his country for eleven and a half years, he was a sniper, team leader, free fall jump master, and several other fun things! An avid hunter and personality on the show Prime Revolution on the Sportsman Channel.
The design intent was to create a skinning knife suitable for bigger game, that would be able to skin out an entire animal or two without the need to continually sharpen during the process. What we ended up with was not only a great skinning knife, but also a great fighting/combat knife, happy by product.
The "Mod. 1" version has a modified tanto style point to it that is better suited to tougher skinning/butchering duties, since it does not have such a fine delicate tip.
The knife has an overall length of 9.5" with a blade length of 4". Constructed from 3/16 thick CPM s35vn stainless steel and heat treated to approximately 60 RC, it has good overall toughness and outstanding edge retention.
The handle scales are cut from black G10 (laminated fiberglass) with an aggressive grip pattern to ensure a solid grip during use, regardless of how slippery your hands become. The handle scales are held on by our own proprietary fasteners which are constructed from 7075 aircraft grade aluminum.
Both the blade and the fasteners are then coated with Cerakote for wear resistance and protection against the elements. All knives come with a kydex sheath in Official Kryptek camouflage.
This knife is a very limited edition, only 25 knifes in A2 steel and 15 knives in CPM s35vn will be made available.
10% of all knife sales are donated to the Veterans Sportsman Alliance, a local Veterans charity that gets injured vets back outdoors hunting, fishing, shooting, whatever it is they would like to do. It is a great charity run by some amazing people. Please check them out.
